Celadon Trucking Review by Wawazat!?, July 22, 2009
I’ll tell you the truth about Celedon.
(First off to any Company butt-kissers/blow hards: I work my butt off every day.I’ve been trucking a long time. I don’t whine and I’m a heck of a good all around trucker if I do say so. So, don’t come on here with your nutso crap directed at me.)
Here are the facts as I experienced them while working for this outfit:
Turnover is very high. Some last a week some last a year or two. Several departments have had major turnovers in the past couple of years. Miles are good for the first 2 or 3 months then start to deacrease.
The pay is low. It will blow your mind as to what is offered to you. That 1000 buck bonus is real and no BS. I got four of them. However they became more and more infrequent over the last 1.5 years I worked there. You’ll sit forever waiting for loads. You can have meetings about milage and better runs till the cows come home and get a song and a dance from them. The office/safety/service people are nice folks, but, they all act afraid to challenge things on your behalf, when you agree that there is some inconsistancies.
Inter-department communication is poor, as is records keeping for the most part. Service/safety record inquiries are ignored, in that you end up chasing down the paper yourself. This may result in unjustified items being placed on your DAC. Good luck getting them strightened out! The garage guys will do their best for you, but, they are always overwhelmed by unnecessary supply problems and volume. You will sit a lot, especially if you get a run down to Laredo which is not uncommon at all. Good hard-working hands sit there from 1 to 3 days!! Yes, there are drivers who have an “in” or know how to work the system for themselves, who can blame them? They generally do ok, but are generally not satisfied either.
Teams have sat down in the break areas and told horror stories about low miles. Yeah, it’s all “smiles and howdy-dos’” in the offices, but that doesn’t pay the bills does it? The safety department ought to be called the ” I don’t know which hand is doing what” department. You really have to make sure that they have a copy of service bills etc. They had my stuff and other drivers all messed up. I have a clean MVR and never have had any tickets, yet I had to spend an inordinate amount of time getting one taken off my DAC that I never had. Safety has some wierd and off-the-wall methodology believe me! If it wasn’t so awful I’d be laughing about them. I left in total disgust after working a few years for them. When I left a year ago the old hands were leaving this place like rats from a sinking ship. A total downhill spiral from a once good company. If you are thinking of hiring on with this outfit, check things out carefully. Make sure they are going to pay you the rate agreed etc.
