Covenant Transport Review by Iraone of my trucks a, February 12, 2010
Covenant is for students ONLY. I had 10 years + and a fleet of 11 trucks that I moved to Covenant after my previous carrier was purchased. The hometime is typical for a “D” carrier. They show no respect for their drivers or contractors. I needed my truck with a carrier not a baby sitter. With something as simple as a cigarette load they tell you when and where you can stop, forbid you from leaving company terminals until the load is JIT to make sure you can’t stop in “unsecured” locations. They tried to charge one of my trucks a $2500 deductable for an accident that never happened it was based on a fictitious motorist complaint with no evidence, police report, nothing but a call in. If your a socialy disfunctional rookie looking for a sub par carrier welcome home, if you have any pride, self respect or common sense get a real job because this one doesn’t cut it.

I work for Covenant and have had great success with them as a team driver. You more than likely will get a 2004+ Freightliner Columbia to start out in, If you run solo you may get a Volvo. They run as as hard as we want to go although the last 2 months has been horrible but it has picked up now and we are back to doing 6k+ miles a week. In 7 months time now I can count the amount of times we have had to sit to wait to be unloaded on 2 hands and still have a few fingers left. Which means most ALL of our drops have been Drop N hook. We get Great pay, Great miles and I am very happy with the choice I made. You get nice Safety Bonuses quarterly, Paid Tuition, Longevity Bonus. They have a pet policy and rider policy. My main gripe with them (other than the slow season) is that when you need to get a hold of someone from the company it sometimes take DAYS to get a hold of anyone in less it is a DIRE Emergency. When we first started we had a total complete JACKASS that treated us like we were supposed to be 20year vets. He has since been fired and we got a new dispatcher and all has been smooth ever since. We have no problem asking for home time and getting home on the days we ask for although we do stay out 7 weeks at a time but you do not have to stay out for that long, I believe you need to be out 3weeks minimum though. I do not feel like we could have made a better decision that to start our teaming careers with Covenant I am quite sure there are better paying company’s out there however you will need some time in the seat to land one of these jobs.

My first REAL complaint and one I have talked to a few other drivers about is; Forget trying to get a hold of someone by phone other than a clueless recruiter that will do anything to sign you on. The only people you can EVER get a hold of by phone is Breakdown, They will actually pick up the phone after 30mins. any other questions? forget it and don’t bother leaving messages, they don’t return them. Fleet Managers: Other than our first one they were all pretty good, They got us home when we wanted and were easy to deal with. Equipment: The trucks are kept up well and all newer equipment and if you have a problem they have no problem with you taking your truck or trailer in to a freightliner or TA and get the problem fixed. On the other hand we had COUNTLESS problems with trailers having missing mudflaps and broken landing gear. I ended up buying a few cans of WD40, A cordless drill and a Bolt and Wingnut. The cordless drill was so I could quickly drill new holes into the mudflaps and reattach them. The bar that syncs the landing gear has two bolts and they are ALWAYS rusted and break so we sat a few times for hours in a yard while piking up the trailer waiting for a repair truck so I got wise and bought a damn nut and bolt and cured that problem. nPayroll: we got paid every week a day before we were even supposed to so I would give them High marks in this department. I only recently had a problem with them reimbursing me for a Lumper, after I called them and proved through copies of my paper work they reimbursed me $76.00 of the $80.00 they tried to jip me. Tolls and everything else went smoothly, just one complaint on my end. Terminals: Trash, unclean It seems as if they thought we were homless. Never went to the Chattanooga Home terminal although I am glad I never did,I heard from EVERY driver that once there you can be expected to be stuck there for 5 or 6 days minimum.
