holly f*** SHI* F*** … people 22 cpm split!! you can make more money with a paper route. I just wonder how they can possibly find people to work TEAMS for such shit pay.
CRST Review by David, August 24, 2011
So “DaSchiznit”, how long have you been a shill for CRST? The fact is, the comments submitted on this board about the ubiquitously horrible pay and lousy treatment dished out to drivers by these companies is NOT a conspiracy. CRST, in fact, is an awful company to work for. Just like Stevens Transport a,d Heartland Express, etc., etc. ad nauseum.
The only way to earn a living wage in the trucking business is to be an owner-operator. And the margins continue to get smaller as the corporate pigs get bigger. I never cease to be amazed at how even the positive reviews contain stories of how the companies mistreat the drivers. It’s as if people are so damned conditioned to accept disrespect and low wages, that they have become oblivious to the fact that they are taking it up the tailpipe. What is wrong with you folks?!
I suggest that all of the drivers start networking via Twitter or Facebook. Only when the drivers as an aggregate, refuse to drive, will the corporate swine who greedily sit at the helm of these companies realize that the drivers ARE the company. Until then, stupid is as stupid does.
CRST Review by Fiancée of a CRST Driver, March 8, 2011
The pay is an insult. They do not take care of the equipment and then expect the drivers to fend for themselves. During the wild weather of 2010 his truck skidded of the road into a ravine: he was left there for 5 hours in the middle of a snow coming down- the snow fell about 3 feet in the time they took to get him out. The dispatchers make promises that they know they will not keep- home time?? Do not make plans until you are home- they will take you and keep you as far away from as possible. Five weeks out and 2days home is not true home time they then are calling you to take a load back out. STAY AWAY- Greedy Greedy company
CRST Review by Tina Z., February 16, 2011
My husband and I worked for CRST back in 1998-2003 and we had our ups and downs at first. Then we had all the miles we could ever want. Sometimes we had to turn down a load or two because we didnt have the hours. We went to school in Fontana, CA and never had any serious problems with them, except for the first couple weeks with our first 2 dispatchers. After that, we ran our tails off for 5 yrs! We only came off the road Sept 2003 because of family problems. We always got our hometime, for a week at a time off, but we stayed out for 6-8 wks. Our first dispatcher was Aneas Schmitz and our last one was John Wright. They both had a rough start with us, but after the kinks were worked out, it was GREAT! We want to go back to work with them now, but I have only been volunteering at my church coffee shop for the past yr and a half and they want me to work and get paid for working for 15mos and then they will take us back. I am taking a refresher course right now in Tucson, and we are going to go OTR for a different company for a while and see how things work out for us.
Another thing, my husband and I got drivers of the quater within 6months of being out there and all of our safe driver certificates the whole time we were there.
So to those of you who are complaining, just stop it, you will find problems anywhere you go and you just have to deal with it for a short time.
If CRST would take us back now, we would surely go back!!!
CRST Review by anonymous, February 14, 2011
I did a lot of research about crst before i went to cedar rapids, ia for their “3=4″ day orientation. I just quit 2 weeks ago, the current date is 2-13-2011. I’m sure that experiences vary by individual but this is what happened for me. I took the greyhound bus on sunday morning at 7:30am from saint louis, mo and arrived that night in cedar rapids, there was a group of about 15 of us waiting for the shuttle. We where driven to the terminal and then taken to the howard johnson. At 6am they started shuttling us from there to the terminal, from there we sat and watched videos and filled out paper work from 7am til 7pm. Here we were informed that after 3 days we would get our cards and be assigned a trainer or truck if you where a owner op, which goes through the same orientation. Second day was the same and that night we were told to pack our things and that we would be staying in the dorms. They do provide lunch, its hot dogs and cheeseburgers every day, they have a tight budget. On the third day i was informed that i needed some paper work, i left the class and had the information faxed over and in was in the office assitant’s hand in 20 mins. They said that the information had to be reviewed and that it might put me off a few days. On the 4th day we were issued comdata cards and id’s. Then we had to wait for a trainer/truck to be assigned. At .22 a mile I would have assumed that they would want you driving, as they are making money. On sat, I was informed that I needed to take the greyhound to kansas city, mo and my driver would pick me up. Sat night at 9:30 he did, it was a 05 jacked up freightligner, that had apparently been wrecked a few times. The guy and me hit it off pretty well, hell i even got along with the pitbull in the truck. we slept in the waffle house parking lot and the next morning we drove to peculiuar, mo and sat til wed, in the mean time, the trainer informed me that he was an owner operator and could only take certain loads if they paid well enough, when sat afternoon rolled around and he had already turned down several loads I became irritated and contacted the driver manager, to see what was going on. After being unable to reach him, I decided not to waste anymore time and money and just go home, when he got back to me I explained the situation and he gave us a load to texas that I would have made 50 on and then sat there for another week, so since I had purchased 50 worth of food for the truck, I asked my trainer if he could drop me off downtown, seeing that he had to ride through their to pick up his load. He was happy about the load they had sent us saying that he would make 800 off it. but the area was hard to get a load from and that we would probably sit for a while. I’m sure most company’s are like this but, I signed up to drive for .22 a mile, not to sit at a truck stop not making anything. I think things would have gone better if I had been assigned a company driver but sometimes things would out for the best. I got offered a job 3 days after I arrived home so thankfully things worked out well.
CRST Review by Steve, May 12, 2010
Driving for CRST was the best job decision I have made in my life. They trained me to get my cdl and have always treated me professionally, fairly and with respect in the 12 years I’ve been driving for them. I have talked with many other drivers from other companies and there is no other company I would rather drive for. The company has integrity, and while the cents per mile are competitive (but on the low side), the great miles and experience more than make up for it. The company has the best hometime of all the OTR companies, including the 20 days on, 10 days off program which is just incredible. I can shut down the truck if I get tired or don’t like the weather, and there is no “pressure” to drive to get it to the destination if I feel a little nervous for safety reasons. They let me make the call to drive or not drive. For those who have had poor experiences, let me just say that while your experience may have been real, there are always two sides to every story. I know that dispatchers can get testy at times but it’s the same with any trucking company. I was on a dedicated run for a while, which was great and was on the road for 4 days and home for three days a week. Today I got a message on the Qualcomm that the company is adding 700 trucks to its fleet in the next year or so due to it getting a lot more contracts for freight. They say they will be upgrading their terminals and buying new Volvos with refrigerators and power inverters. I have looked into other companies but they don’t offer half of what CRST offers, so I’m staying.
CRST Review by former CRST driver, April 20, 2010
P.T.Barnum once said “theres a sucker born every minute”
well im a sucker for driving for CRST and so is everyone else employed with CRST
4 co-drivers in 3 months
1st one was crazy (she talked to her self) didnt know how to shift, back,or follow directions (qualcom, gps, verbal)allways insisted everything and everybody was wrong so she allways went the opposite direction and was allways lost
2nd one had to leave due to family problems
3rd one was psycho who beat up the truck and equipment and threatened me
4th one was great (finally)
i had a good dispatcher(dispatch miles vs. actual miles) i think its company policy to skim miles and the trailer shuttles (los angeles, ca.) is the worst
the treminals ive seen looked run down the showers i hated(allways worried about catching something)
you have to work for .22 to .23 cpm split miles for 6 months as a team driver
CRST Review by travis, December 16, 2009
my experience with crst sucked, i advise people not to go to them at all, first of all they rented us a car to go , me and a friend. origionally we had a bus ticket, i feel like why rent us a car that could get recked or something when we had a bus ticket and could have rested in the bus. ok so the drive was long they didn’t give us the address to where to take the car when we got there. oklahoma city sucked. took us an additional 3 hours to find the airport. the recruiter wanted us to leave the car there. so we called the shuttle to the hotel , the shuttle guy took like another 5 hours to show up and was was very tired from the drive. he tried to say we wasn’t where he can pick us up at. but he didn’t blow the horn to let us know he was there he just left. and finally we get to the hotel room, a very run down roach infested econolodge. with worn out matresses and bed bugs in the sheets. and they had three people to a room and some rooms had two. so we go to orientation steve reicher was ok, but he did talk about other companies like crst was better. during orientation they lost people’s paperwork and had to do paperwork over that the recruiter did the before we even came, i had the guy ask me about doing 3 papers over and get this he had me do the same papers over like 7 times in that 4 days i was like damn yall are so unorganized. my class was like 50 people they say they have 50 people a week in orientation. i think it for tax write off, the building looked old and run down. when i was there they was doing minor renovations in oklahoma city. my trainer got hired on the same day i got hired he drove for 20 years or so he says before he came there and they made him my trainer. i was like how you guys gonna have him be my trainer when he is new like me, i’d rather it be someone that has months with the company and know the do’s and don’t of the company not someone new like me. well things was ok the first week on the road but the trainer wasn’t letting me drive at all. he was hogging all the driving and miles and i asked him , arent i supposed to drive so i can learn everything. he was like you will get your time. ok first week passed and trainer did most the driving and when he called comdata to see how much his pay was and it wasn’t right he got pissed off when he found out they not only split the pay but they also slipt the driver miles 50/50 so no matter who driving you still get half miles. so after that he had me driving constantly while he sits back and rests , he didn’t teach me how to do the quailcom, maps, backing nothing. so when it came time for me to do it and i couldne’t he started cussing at me and i was like excuse me your supposed to be training me. not cussing me and getting my face like you wanna fight me. so he argued with me and put his finger in my face and pushed my forehead and told me he would beat my a**. i said that was the last straw, after one week of not learning anything cause he wasn’t teaching me and 2 weeks of learning things on my own he threatens me and i wrote a message on the quailcom to my fleet manager which was lucas casper, and i know i’m putting these people on blast. but new people need to know. i call him and he has this like whatever attitide, he said i’m sorry you went through that but we don’t have any more trainers , all i can say is if you wanna get out the truck it will be like 2-3 weeks before you can get with a new one and you will have to go home in that time. i was like that is good for me and he says no you will have to do the whole training over, i still didnt care cause i said i’m still getting driving experience and it will go to my 6 months that i wanted so i can find something local. but he did it in a way that i coudlne’t go home cause they never routed us near my home or to oklahoma city back to the crst. so i was stuck with the guy, then me and him got in a argument again and i called and told casper a second time and he was like you may have to tuff it out and deal with it, cause we don’t have no more trainers. so i was like ok i had enough and i can’t take anymore of this crazy trainer and get this in orientation steve says if you have issues with a trainer or your not learning from them to let them know and they will give you a new one, that is a lie. so after lucas never gave me the new trainer i was plotting ways of getting home, and the pay sucks i was getting 10 dollars here 20 there, and they are big on saying you want a cash advance , when you get your check it had no money at all on it. so my last week i didn’t eat that whole week and wasn’t able to shower. i was so miserable. my trainer was eating every day and showering. so we got a route finally thru atlanta i got out at a gas station and went home, and i left the bipolar trainer in the truck. so i get a call like 3 days later from someone from crst threatening me to come back saying i abandoned the load and it can go on my dac, i was like hold up that’s a lie , i didn’t abandon anything, and i said it was 2 people in the truck and the truck is assigned to the trainer and the loads were all assigned to him too so what you talking about. so we got in a lil argument. as of right now i’m working on getting my endorcements and also lookign to go with us express or roehl i advise anyone looking into crst to stay away in less you want to go thru hell and back like i did pay is very bad, can’t eat dont have enough money for nothing. it almost like you homeless but living in a semi it really sucks. on a good note i was in a 09 model truck but it had like 500,000 miles on it already. sad that the only good thing i can say was the truck was new but had a ton of miles on it already. and we did get alot of miles but the thing is all those mines but no money coming in it just a waist of time.
CRST Review by Dan Davidson, December 2, 2009
As an owner of a small trucking company it doesn’t surprise me that CRST drivers make peanuts. We had a customer we hauled for the last 12years,till CRST came in and slashed the rates.A lot of time they don’t even put these cheap loads on their own trucks, they find some poor guy going broke and broker it out.
CRST Review by DaSchiznit, November 19, 2009
Best trucking company ever! Competitive pay, no B.S. dispatch. All the other drivers that have left comments here are just wrong. Wouldn’t have been at the company 10years if it had been nothing less that a wonderful experience. Dispatcher are always kind and helpful and maintenance is second to none. Company hires wonderful drivers with high IQs and pleasant dispositions which makes for a glorious co-driving experience.
CRST Review by Anonynomus, November 15, 2009
I’ve has been working for this company for a short while and I find that this company lies to it’s potential drivers to get them on board. Dispatch is sorry and and I hope that they get back every ounce of disrepect as they give to their drivers. They’re the only ones making any money out here while the driver’s suffer. Home time is a joke to them. And their always saying that there’s no freight, or that their waiting on freight. If your buying a truck from this company you may as well understand that you will only be paying for the truck. You will find that you will only work for one week and sit the next so by the time you do get paid you’re paying for a 2 week truck note, gas, and expiences. NO TAKE HOME PAY! This to me seems to be the way this company works. I wouldn’t advise no one to join this company. I sugguest you get your training and experience and find work with another company. Exspecially is you really want to work. THIS COMPANY IS A JOKE!!!!!
CRST Review by Jean, September 15, 2009
to add further to what i said earlier. We put in money into our truck $400 because they dont give you enough fuel to get to your destination and on top of that your dead head miles are between 150 to 300 miles…oh yeah we did about 300 miles of dead head miles because they said “you’re an owner operator now its either you get the load or you dont get a load at all”…heed the warning…not worth the pain and a hole in your pocket…
CRST Review by Jean, September 15, 2009
Company needs to shut down. But then they said snakes are hard to put down right. Company is not good to drivers and only care about their 25 percent. Dispatchers are bad, they dont help you when you need them. Overall this company sucks. we just started working for this company and we’re already in deficit and we’re running the road everyday and we’re in deficit that shows how much this company sucks. To anyone thinking of crst believe me its not worth it. We are in the worst jam ever. Our house is in foreclosure and we’re losing pretty much what we have work for over the years and now we’re getting screwed by a company that at first we were thinking could help us, but in reality are creating more problems. thanks but no thanks its not worth it..

C.R.S.T PLEASE STOP SCAMMING THESE PEOPLE. TELL THEM THE TRUTH ABOUT HOW IT REALLY IS OUT THERE.YOU WOULD GET MORE DRIVERS IF YOU WERE HONEST ABOUT THINGS FROM THE START. ALSO, YOU REALLY NEED TO HAVE A GOOD TALK WITH YOUR DISPATCH. THEY ARE RUDE TO EVERYONE. DON’T THEY REALIZE THAT WITHOUT THESE TRUCKERS THEY WOULD NOT HAVE A PAY CHECK. YOU SHOULD BE RECORDING ALL OF THEIR CALLS WITHOUT THEM KNOWING IT AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT WE MEAN. I KNOW OF THREE OF THEM THAT NEED TO BE FIRED FOR THE WAY THEY TREAT DRIVERS AND FAMILIES. IF THEY DISLIKE THEIR JOB THAT BAD GET RID OF THEM AND PUT MORE PLEASANT PEOPLE IN THEIR POSITION THAT ARE WILLING TO WORK WITH THE DRIVERS. THE RUDEST ARE BETTY N. & CHRISTOPHER THEY HANG UP ON PEOPLE AND DONT GET BACK TO THE DRIVERS. THEY THINK OH WELL THEY CAN JUST DEAL WITH IT ATTITUDE. SO BETTY AND CHRISTOPHER DO EVERYONE A FAVOR AND RESIGN OR CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDES! TRY TO GET DRIVERS CLOSER TO HOME IT CAN’T BE THAT HARD. MY HUSBAND IS STILL WORKING FOR YOU COMPANY BUT I DOUBT IT WILL BE MUCH LONGER IF THINGS DONT START GETTING BETTER HE IS REALLY FED UP WITH YOUR COMPANY AND HE HAS APPLICATION IN OTHER PLACES. SO IF HE GETS A CALL IM SURE HE WILL BE GONE. HE IS ONE OF THE BEST DRIVERS YOU HAVE OUT THERE SO DONT BLOW IT!!!!
CRST Review by WIFE OF A DRIVER, July 27, 2009
DON’T ANYONE CALL THIS COMPANY THEY NEED TO BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS. THEY START NEW DRIVERS OUT AT .22CPM HOWEVER, .10CPM IS TAXED .10CPM IS NOT TAXED AND THE COMPANY JUST KEEPS THE OTHER .02CPM. WHAT A RIPP OFF FOR THE GUYS WHO ARE ALREADY LOW PAY SCALE. THE GUYS THAT MAKE .44CPM ARE ACTUALLY GETTING.32CPM NOW IF YOU THINK THIS IS WORTH IT BY ALL MEANS YOU DESERVE BEING SCREWED THEN. ALSO, IF THE LEAD DRIVER WANTS TO STAY OUT FOR 6 WEEKS YOUR SCREWED TOO. YOU HAVE TO STAY OUT THERE TOO. THEY LIE WHEN THEY TELL THE GUYS THEY WILL BE HOME EVERY 3 WEEKS ITS UP TO THE LEAD DRIVER WHICH IS WRONG. JUST BECAUSE HE DON’T WANT TO SEE HIS FAMILY DOESN’T MEAN THE OTHER GUY DON’T. OH YEA THIS STUFF WITH MEETING UP WITH THE TRUCK IS BULLCRAP YOU HAVE TO GO WHERE EVER THE LEAD DRIVER LIVES. HE PARKS THE TRUCK WITHIN 5 MILES OF HIS HOUSE AND IT TAKES THE OTHER GUY 3-4 HOURS TO GET HOME. DISPATCH ARE REALLY DUMB. WHEN ITS HOME TIME THEY NEED TO HAVE LOADS GO AS CLOSE TO THE OTHER MANS AREA AS POSSIBLE AND LET THE LEAD DRIVER TAKE THE LOAD IN THEN TAKE THE TRUCK HOME FROM THERE. THEY ARE REALLY STUPID. EXAMPLE: THE NIGHT BEFORE MY HUSBANDS HOME TIME AT 4AM HE WAS ONLY 40 MILES FROM HOME HOWEVER, HE DROPPED THE LOAD AT 10AM THEN IT WAS HOME TIME BUT’ HE WAS 4.5 HOURS FROM HOME NOW AND I HAD TO GO PICK HIM UP WHICH WAS BULL-SHIT WHEN HE COULD OF GOT OUT 6 HOURS EARLIER. C.R.S.T DOEN’T CARE ABOUT THE STRESS THAT THIS CAUSES THE FAMILY EITHER. WE HAVE JOBS TOO, BUT I DONT WANT MY HUSBAND STRANDED EITHER. WITH C.R.S.T IT’S ALL ABOUT THEM AND NO-ONE ELSE. MY ADVICE IS TO RUN AND KEEP GOING.
CRST Review by Wawazat!?, July 22, 2009
Wierdest bunch of creepy people I ever met in trucking. Went to orientation left one day later. Everyone is nasty and has a real crappy attitude. They actually asked us to sign some legal banking deal that allows them to take money back from your account. When I objected to this they acted like I had committed some horrible faux-pas. Three people in the cab for driving test…illegal!! Bizarre attitudes abound! Stay faaar away!
CRST Review by WIFE OF A DRIVER, July 1, 2009
CRST SUCKS!!! STAY AWAY AS FAR AS POSSIBLE. ONCE YOU DO YOUR THREE WEEKS THEY DONT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOU. THEY WILL SEND YOU FURTHER FROM HOME, JUST SO YOU CAN GET YOURSELF HOME AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE. THE PAY TOTALITY SUCKS .22 A MILE SPLIT HAS TO BE THE WORST. DISPATCH IS THE RUDEST PEOPLE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED AND THE MOST STUPID. THEY WILL SEND YOU FURTHER FROM HOME WHEN ITS ALMOST YOU HOME TIME. WOW!! WHAT GENIUSES CRST HIRES.EVERYONE PLEASE LISTEN STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY THEY WILL SCREW YOU FOR SURE. AND THEY CALL WARNER THE SCREW WHAT A JOKE.OH YEA BUS RIDES ARE 22.5 HOURS TO GET HOME BUT IF YOU COULD DRIVE IT IN 4 HOURS BUT THEY WONT RENT YOU A CAR EITHER. SEE HOW THEY REALLY CARE .
CRST Review by Anonymous, January 5, 2009
Unless you’re looking for a screwing, stay away. I said that I wasn’t going to post negatives here, but I am, cause I am so pissed with this company. Bottom line, the pay is horrid, they never get you home on time, and if you are a day from home time, and you are an hours drive away from home or so, they will give you another load across the county and you are a few days late getting home. Dispatcher is the biggest SOB on the planet. He had the volume turned up on the phone and I listened to their conversation and he is the rudest, snippiest twit I ever heard. If you want a company whose dispatchers don’t give a damn about you, this is the one to go with. Oh, and the dispatcher will tell you one thing, and the dispatcher will tell your co driver another and when things get screwed up (meeting up to go back out after home time) you both get yelled at when it was the dispatchers fault in the first place. My fiancé has 3 weeks left before he has his 3 months in (before that 1 year local) and he is already looking into a few companies that will take him with 3 months. If you can go to the college course for trucking take it verses the CRST school, maybe same building, but different experience. Do not listen to the negatives in orientation, that man needs to learn cause and effect. Everyone looking at the negatives he dishes out makes negatives happen. After his class CRST had a lot of bad accidents. They asked for it with the negative teaching. Just a thought. They do have trouble getting you home time, but you can expect that with any company. Good Luck.
