Millis Transfer

Millis Transfer has grown from 20 tractors and 40 trailers in 1982 to over 550 tractors, 2000 trailers and 100 plus Owner Operators. Millis is proud of the fact they were able to show considerable growth, and at the same time have a strong operating ratio. This proves growth has not had an adverse effect on efficiency. Millis also operates its own driver training centers know as MTI (Millis Training Institute) in Richfield, WI. Cartersville, Ga. and Trenton, Oh. Trainees welcome, needed, wanted. 3 weeks of classroom, low cost, lodging included. Positions available to Truck Driving School graduates after attending Millis Training Institute.

As a former Millis Driver, I can tell you can IF you juggle your logs, and don’t follow the DOT regs, but never get caught at a scale, you are a Millis pet. Good miles, great perks. But run legal, do what is legal and right, and suffer. Less miles, dispatcher sends you where he wishes without regard for your needs to pick up personal items shipped to a terminal. And heaven forbid you call safety to report a dispatcher bending the rules. I would never return to Millis. The Millis family is an honorable and honest family. Problem is…they let outsiders (family friends) place their asses in a legal ringer. So very sad.

I am an ex-millis driver (Thinking about returning). I can’t believe the crap I’m reading here. As far as hometime, all they ask is that you are out 7 days before taking hometime. I’ve never had them ‘enforce’ a strict amount of time as far as being out 7 days and getting 34 hours at home. You could get home Friday afternoon and not check in until Monday morning and never have a problem. As far as miles go, I was getting 3300 – 3800 a week and still managed to get ‘through’ the house on most weekends (Largely because of my location). That may be different now with the DOT regulations / belt tightening, but the miles are there if you WANT them. One thing I noticed about people that complained about low miles was they were usually the ones also turning loads down. If you turn a load down, you go to the bottom of the list and start waiting all over again. I drove 3 different trucks for Millis and all were in good shape, and no more than 3 years old. When something breaks, they fix it. Of your OTR they stick you in a hotel. They are more than fair and make themselves available for any questions or comments you have.

I HIGHLY recommend Millis Transfer, and if/when I go back OTR they will b who I call first.

Millis Transfer’s website is nothing but false adveritising. On a scale of 1 to 10 are far as treatment of drivers Millis comes in under 2. Drivers are lead to believe that the money that comes out of their pay for health insurance is actually administration fees for a company that handles their paperwork as Millis is self-insured. Miles and pay are inadequate. For a driver just starting out Millis provides equipment that is more than 3 years old. I would NOT recommend any driver to Millis Transfer.

Watch the Per Diem Rip Off. Home is usually 21/2 days per 2 weeks out. Benefits are so-so at best. New fleet and getting new trailers all the time, the new trucks are T2000’s with a lot of bugs to work out.
