Swift Transportation Review by FresnoTrucker, July 25, 2010
At one time Swift ran their coast to coast trucks at 57mph. They are a training company. Lots of rookies.
Equipment is so soo. NO PET POLICY.
Keep yourself in Phx Terminal.
Just understand that they live on rookies. Swift uses Rookies up like they do oil filters.
Swift Transportation Review by Current Company Driver, April 4, 2010
Ok here it is, I hired on to Swift a while back as an experienced driver after talking extensively to a Craig Carter, a Recruiter in Memphis Tn. As an experienced driver I should have known everything he promised me would be a lie. I can’t ever get home and the Terminal in Southern Michigan I work out of is a joke. I have had junk trucks, the people I have to deal with at my home Terminal including Eric the Terminal manager are all rude, nasty lying people. I do get ok miles and my pay is above average for the times but it is SO NOT WORTH the Swift BS politics. I highly recommend ANYONE thinking about working here DON’T. Get a job flipping burgers or pumping gas, at least there you will be treated as a human and not a worthless number. Swift has no respect for it Drivers. I am a very safe driver and 100% on time. I shower and dress well, but that makes no difference. I hate my job but due to lack of work and the amount I get paid per mile I have no choice but to stay at Swift for the foreseeable future.
That being said to all the students out there most of your problems are your own fault. Take the time to learn and if your trainer isn’t doing his job report him or her and ask for help. You haven’t paid your dues and in turn have no right to complain yet. You can better your training and your career if you do as you’re told and work smart.
Good luck and PLEASE DO NOT JOIN SWIFT..
Swift Transportation Review by anomymous, April 3, 2009
I went to work for Swift right out of driving school.I was
trained to be a on the road driver. I had a good trainer
he had me driving 10 hours a day on my second week.I could not belive that he would crawl in the back and go to sleep on my first week driving .A student in my orientation class
was killed when his trainer was in the back sleeping.
After training they put me doing heavy haul hauls and heavey haul reefer loads in the pacific north west. I was not at all trained for this. They oue me money for a tow that they have not payed me for I am sueing them for this.I asked them to keep me in the south for my first year or so because I had never driven in snow in a car much less a semi.they sent me into the worst snow storms in history with no training how to chain up or anything.they cheated me on pay .Lied to me .I was on the road for three months I was to have dec.23 thru the 25 off .i sent them a message that i was quiting deliverd my load to the washington terninal turned in my keys and they said that I abandoned my load .Just a bunch of liars beware.

I did two months with Swift, coming in as an experienced driver. Wanna hear my experiences with them? No? Then read no further. Otherwise, read on. I went to Swift because I thought they had opportunities which looked promising, such as autohaul, and/or being a driver trainer, getting paid for all miles driven. It’s not hard to figure out why I became turned off by the prospect of training with Swift… I ran flatbeds out of Gary terminal for Swift (I was supposed to run out of Eden, but was advised not to). In the short time I worked for Swift, here’s what happened to me: 1: I was sent to orientation in Memphis, and I took my own car. Turns out, I could’ve gone to Greer, SC, for orientation, and driven only 4 hours either way instead of 12. I was never reimbursed for my travel costs, either, although they had promised to do so. 2: I was graded, during my road test, by a driver with less driving time than me, and could find nothing wrong with how I drove, yet still tried to fail me because, after being accustomed to driving a thirteen speed, I had a habit of instinctively trying to thumb the splitter, even though Swift’s nine speeds did not have one. 3: On my third night with the company, after I had shut down for the night, another Swift driver asked if I could help him back into a spot. I did, and, talking with this driver, I had learned that his trainer did not let him back once during his training. I got the name of his trainer, and called Gary to report this. Their response was to say that he was a senior driver, and I had no business criticizing how he trained his students. I got the same reaction from Phoenix. The next day, I get a call on my cell phone from this trainer, making threats at me. I told him he was a f#@!up, and to never call me again. 4: I was billed, against one of my paychecks, a cash advance of $103 that I never took. In fact, I never took a cash advance while I was with Swift. 5: As I was sleeping in my truck at the Laredo terminal, another driver backed into me. Swift charged me with a preventable accident, and I had to hire a lawyer to get it removed from my DAC. 6: I blew a steer tire, and it took OnRoad TWELVE HOURS to send someone. This caused me to miss my load time, and I was charged with a service failure. Another one for the lawyer. 7: When I first went to pick up my truck, they had intended on issuing me an FLD. Fine. But when I opened the door, I found out that the previous driver had cleared out, but had left all his trash and piss bottles in the truck. By the smell, I could tell at least one of them was leaking. I refused the truck, and, after much argument, was assigned a Columbia, which had been much better maintained, but the previous driver of that truck had left eight copies of the Bible in the truck. Scary. Also, they refused to replace the mattress, even though it’s company policy to do so, so I threw that one out, and hit the sporting goods section of Wally World to find a substitute. 8: Four DVD movies, and a CB, were stolen out of my truck at the Decatur, GA, terminal, most likely by mechanics there. Claims blew it off, sayng they weren’t responsible for personal items in trucks. The security manager at that terminal refused to get off is fat, lazy, ass, for anything. 9:The final straw came as I was taking a load of RV chassis from the Freightliner Custom Chassis plant in Gaffney, SC, to Alpha Leisure in Ontario, Calif. My truck was having problems with both the electrical and air systems, and I was routed to go across the Banning scales. At the Phoenix terminal, the mechanics refused to repair anything, saying that there was nothing wrong with the truck. So, I called Gary, told them the truck was out of service, and arranged to t-call the load in Phoenix. I then rented a car, cleared out the truck, turned in the keys, and went home, remembering to call in to Gary about two hours later to let them know I quit. I hate Swift with a passion, and wish only to see the destruction of that company Swift drivers understand that this is not about you, and you’re not the ones I have a problem with. For all those considering to start out with Swift, I recommend that you take a close look at the Swift trucks you see on the road. Notice how many trucks have crushed fairings, bent exhaust pipes, bent bumpers, and other damage. Notice how many trailers severely bent and damaged ICC bumpers and rubrails. Then compare what you see of Swift to other training companies like US Xpress, Werner, TMC, Knight, etc. The same things happen to these company trucks and trailers and what happens to Swift trailers, but what does it say about Swift to leave their equipment in that shape, when other companies repair theirs? Anyhow, I’m not gonna tell anyone who to drive for, and who not to drive for. Draw your own conclusions.
