Werner Enterprises Review by thunderbird63, August 16, 2011
I tried to work for these guy’s twice . My co-driver was one who liked to show his penis in the truck . He was a dirty fat jerk who had no respect for others . Helived in the truck as a pig . The trucks were so bad i was always afraid to enter California to be given citations for a unsafe truck . I have a pending law suite for sexual misconduct by a co-worker and unsafe truck and equipment ,

After getting laid off from a 20 year office job, I decided to get into the trucking industry because unemployment benefits was running out! I drove for Werner Enterprises for 3 months after attending a truck driving school in South Bend, IN caleed CDI (Commercial Driving Institute) Had a blast at school and keep in touch with 2 other classmates. I chose Werner because of the paperless logs and no touch freight. I drove a 2004 Freightliner Classic XL with a 450 hp twin turbo Caterpillar and straight 9 speed with automatic 8-9 shift. (I trained in an identical 05 model) I was getting pretty good at manuvers in that truck! I left Werner last week because of hometime issues and low pay (.26/mi.) and in those 3 months the most miles I did was about 1,500/wk. Basically I was paying for medical insurance and $130/wk cash advances to be away from my family with little or no money deposited in my bank account I’m looking for a company to drive for that will get me home nightly and every weekend. (Every weekend at least!) I have applied to ICX that promises this but at .31/mi. JB Hunt has called me at least 15 times and promises .40+/mi and home every other weekend (possibly every weekend soon) I want to make the right move so I’m a little skeptical on who to choose right now. Any input would be appreciated!

I drove for Werner for about 2 years. I never really had any problems with them as a company. The few problems I had was that they dont like to give you very nice equipment. They give all the good trucks to High Millers. One other problem I did have was my home time. They liked to keep you out there. I was on the midwest regional which was supposed to get me home every weekend. Well I was home maybe one weekend out of 3. Most people that is not a big deal but to me it was due to I have a wife and a 5 year old son I would like to see. I did get the home time fixed. I just went over my fleet managers head and that resolved the problem. They are a decent company. You just have to give them a shot to see. They are not the best and they are not the worst. Every company will have their ones that don’t like them. There is no getting around that. I was happy with them. I left them because I was needing to be home with my dad who has since passed away. I will probly go back to them. Good luck in your company search.

I don’t want to sound like most of these guys on here bashing companies, I’ll start just to say my previous experiences with this company were great, no major problems, awesome truck, nice dispatcher, but i’ll tell ya, I don’t get it. a change in their staff on my account, conagra foods, (frozen TCU) has made the last few months truely hell. To start months ago I was told that conagra is no longer shipping from or delivering to anywhere in tennessee where i lived, while i knew this was a lie, i figured i’ll be loyal, stay on the account, (its one of the highest paying accounts with em) started to move to kansas then was told i was being assigned to dallas to california. so i’m just like #@$! and deal with it. hell i even put up with both night and day dispatchers telling me to run my log one way or another (just learned this is ilegal) move to houston, not too far from dallas ft worth, bad idea. turns out california is a royal pain in the butt to deliver or pickup in, i was late 3 times due to traffic and blamed for every one of them. then my truck starts to mess up, breaks down and goes in the shop several times, they get mad at me for how long the truck is in the shop delaying which ever load im on… then i get sent up to indianapolis here recently and have to shut down due to high winds with a mt trailer (which i’m sure a few of you heard what happed to the few drivers that did not pull over, ended up rolled over) . oh damn even worse idea. I get told today I’m being removed from the account. I understand ontime delivery is important, i really do strive for this, i work hard to please my company, and at the same time be a safe and legal driver. before i had a superviser i could talk to who really listened, understood happens, but he was replaced by some lady who is well. less than friendly. a little pissed but still trying to keep my cool i try to explain my situation, gets me no where, so i bring up the last time i was requested to change my log and ask for the time and date to report this to both safety and d.o.t. i got no response at all, and i’m still in limbo. not real sure what to do at this point, i hate to leave the company without finishing out a full year, and i still have a student loan to pay off.
